Disturbing. The Whitehouse has been trumpeting away about bringing freedom and democracy to the world, but is at this very moment trying to block UN documents that ensure women's freedom.
The US Government has insisted a United Nations document on women's equality makes clear that abortion is not a fundamental right... smh
This latest infringement on human rights has implications for women everywhere. The UN is, or was supposed to be, representative of many nations. If such a document is passed by the UN, it effects not only women in the US but women all over the world. And this is indicative of a, eek, general conservative global trend. Women's rights are quietly and insidiously under fire. Women make up just over half of the worlds total population, a huge group of people that encompasses all ethnicities, all nationalities and all religions.
It is not hard to see why a predominantly male administration wants to control women's lives;
Women now own about 2 per cent of all land but produce half the food grown, according to UN figures. In many societies, the right for women to own and inherit property is neglected and in some countries it is forbidden.
So, a male administration seeking to "rebuild" the world is using the old "bash the girls" card to try and garner support from other men who would otherwise be in opposition to US administrative "democracy plans".
Another reason why we should be writing 50-50% govt gender representation into our worlds constitutions. Otherwise we just end up with boys trying to pass off trash like that, flanked by girls who only manage to stay "in with them" by agreeing with everything the boys say. Like Sauerbrey and Rice.
Anything less then 50-50% gender representation in governing bodies signals a pattern of imbalance, which intensifies over time. Until we invariably end up with war. I'm really sorry all you peaceful men out there - but you are just going to have to campaign harder to get your sisters into parliamentary, governmental and UN positions. Otherwise we will see what we see happening all over the world right now; a handful of male powerbrokers flanked by a few minority representatives who survive by telling the boys what they want to hear; "oh my, what a big war you have" and "goodness! How huge is your revolution!". Flanked by tokenism.
(Yes, you revolutionists need to give this some serious thought. Just look at the Ukraine, still has a male president. And how many females in his cabinet aye? Exactly. What was the point in going to all that trouble of overthrowing the old regime if people are just going to recreate the same old thing. Now change can be good so I'm not knocking that, I'm just saying - how are we going to replace the things we remove? And what are we going to replace the removed things with?)

another fantastic post by the socialist emigre. i agree with you. all girls should actually be forced to abort their first child so they will better understand their rights. i dont care that the suicide rate of women that have had abortions is like 1000 times higher than that of women that haven't. abortions should be legal and free and embraced all over the planet. china has the right idea. they are only allowed 1 child, so why buy condoms if the government will pay for you to get sucked out weekly? i don't understand why your man hating rant made no mention of any rights a father should have about abortion or what ethical issues should be address. normally i would say that emigre has once again posted about something she has no idea about, but i have a feeling that emigre has seen the ol' abortion doctor several times per month. do these ulta feminists ever close their legs?
John
i find emigres comments quit humerous. she goes insane whenever a terrorist is killed in iraq, but how dare anyone say that killing babies shouldn't be a constitutional right. you are filled with so much hate and anger inside. why are you so messed up mentally? what did someone ever do to you to screw up your head and make you such a vicious and hideous person? you really hate everything about the world. i haven't seen a positive post from you EVER! why i still read this poorly written crap is beyond me since it is only meant for people to feel as bad about the world as you do. why dont you ever mentioned anything positive about the world? everything has to be anti-america, anti-democracy, anti-man, anti-this, anti-that. always another thing to protest, another american flag to burn. i feel sorry for people like you. I wish some other people would actually contribute to the blog some of their more positive perspectives. i've heard enough from this weasel.

Pre-martial anal sex!
Please take a vacation, Em.

let me be the first to accept your apology. i understand how people can go through tough times, but being negative doesnt help. i like this new honest side of you.
John
Hey Em chill out! No need to get worked up like that..
As I understand, Abortion is useful at times..
1. Cases of Rape (and the mother doesnt want the child).
2. When pregnancy constitutes a hazard on the mother's health (and the friggin' husband forgot to put on a rubber, oh and doesnt go the Moore/Kerry way)
and more i cant remember right now.. my knee hurts like hell. was kicked to shit 40 minutes ago.
anyways I'll drop on by when I get some painkillers and a grip-bandage applied.
see ya take care.
bruno, was the US the only nation not to sign the kyoto protocal? australia didnt, china didnt, almost all eastern european, middle eastern, asian, african, and south american nations didnt. why arent you complaining about them? and the US doesn't take its cases to the international court, so whats the big deal? because europe decides for something, the US should be forced to accept every idiotic idea belgium comes up with? and i agree with the other post....you are probably anti-death penalty, but 100% pro abortion. thats how you liberals are, a bunch of jokes.
emigre, im glad to see that you're getting laid. perhaps that will make you relax more.
Em,
While I agree with you, I also think that you are over reacting. There is no such thing as instant change in social values. There may well be times of instant release, but this is only existing values coming into the light of day. Let's face it. We have been a world of male dominated chimpanzees for centuries. We are evolving into bonobos, which is a good thing. But it will take time. I think most changes of this magnitude take 200-300 years to accomplish. There is nothing GWB can do to stop the inevitable. At best, through his postion of power, he can forestall certain details for a few years.
Emigre was right to bring up this US interference in a women's rights issue, coming so soon after a discussion on gender balance in the Iraqi assembly/parliament. It is important background.
Some of the commenters here are, to say the least, disrespectful of the service Emigre has put in to greater international understanding of Iraq. I don't know many other places that allow such mixed opinion.
I hope they don't put you off, Emigre.
That last comment was by me, Aidan

0023, if you will not pay your hard earned dollars to read and or listen to Emigre speak about sexual and other issues, then you are nothing but a Nazi.
TheBlueFinger
0023, i dont know why emigre went crazy and made all these weird posts about abortion and her sexual fantasies, or whatever it is supposed to be...but i can't imagine it was because of you. plus, she apologized for her recent comments, so i think everything is better with her brain now. i hope. Personally, this is the most interesting posts she has ever made.
John
personally, i dont care who emigre is having sex with or what her views on abortion are. she should keep her sexual acts to herself. i think she shouldn't be allowed to make any more posts on the blogroll because of these vulgar posts. the blogroll should be about iraqis and their views. emigre is just some australian chick, not an iraqi, and nobody cares about her views or her sexual acts. i have a view in my mind that emigre is quite obese, so i dont want to have a person image of a fat person having anal sex.

8 March: International Womens Day!
My opinion is that Emigre has been acting very well by mentioning the abortion item. 'Fundamental women's right are more essential for (global) society than most men do realize. And how strange that only men's names (i don't think these are nicks' of women) pop up as commentors on this subject. Me, being Dutch and female, i do have certain fundamental rights, and abortion is one of these. I am glad with that. Women struggled and struggle for that. And you know what? Abortion doesn't make child birth impossible!
And you know something else? I totally understand that emigre flipped out over the insensitive comments she got on this. So, Emigre, my suggestion is to concentrate on what women in Iraq organize for the 8th of March.
My best wishes to all of you,
cecile
wow, this has certainly been an entertaining thread. people make one negative comment about abortion and emigre goes insane. what exactly does her having 3 somes and anal sex with khalid, his mother, john kerry, and michael moore have to do with her position on abortion? im glad you have taken a new and improved stance on the US however
Frank the Tank
ok bruno, whatever. i guess we can add you to the list of people that have had anal sex with emigre recently.
Tom
well someone is obviously pissed. is there an arabic word for "PMS"?
I don't know what paper this is, (is it the place where *The Ruttles* came from? :) but the article explains some more on the original subject and why fair reason exists to feel irritation.
http://www.rutlandherald.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20050303/NEWS/503030312/1037
does this mean you aren't a whore and didnt have sex with khalid, his mother, john kerry, and michael moore? does it mean that bruno's penis is still too small to satisfy you? im confused.
richsanter: take a clear and real look around and you will understand that women's right to decide must certainly prevale here. it are serious issues, yes, but let's take these up when women's rights equals men's rights. and in the meantime: use condoms ;)
well amsterdam, somebody looks like a fool now, huh?
Frank the Tank
bruno, you comment about me? look at yourself. at least no woman has ever said that my penis wasn't big enough for her. LOSER

Social values, Do the Taliban have any?
Or if not Taliban, who thinks like this?
This is the real emigre speaking. She is almost amused by identity theft. Not.
I am flattered that someone might want to be me - on the other hand, get over it.
Btw - some readers may experience continuity difficulties on this thread.
This is because a handfull of posts by an imposter have been "cleaned".
You think what remains is bad? You should have seen it before.
i'm still confused. does this mean that emigre did or did not have anal sex with bruno and a 3 some with khalid and his mother? can someone fill me in?
Grow up, richsanter. Choosing an identity of your own is not hard.
Feeble richsanter. Do you really think anyone is going to take those "impersonations" seriously?
Just what exactly is your point? That you are able to create false identities and fake user profiles?
You remind me of the kid at the back of the class who says "I'm teacher" and then makes squelchy noises with his armpits.
Peter Pan never got to never-land by spitting at the tooth fairy.
Grow up.
