Glum morning cheeriness !
Well I know the weekend has been a bit of a shocker for everyone - no less for Iraqis who have just seen their liberators go down the sinkhole.
Anyway, bit of optimism to chirp everyone up:
One good thing about Iraq, if the climate models are correct it'll become a basin of civilsation again - because all the big coastal maritime cities are going underwater and Iraq is well placed in the middle away from the edges (bad news for Manhatten - sorry, I can't help it I'm just the weather forecaster).
Also, Fats Domino lives and he's "goin' back to Nu Orleans"...
That's it from me for now, I'm about all good-newsed out.

Oh come on richsanter - I feel like I've been to 10,000 funerals, this century just seems to be one civil disaster after another. It really takes a toll on the global psyche - seriously, it wrings people out. You gotta look on the bright side sometimes. And you can't not smile that Fats Domino pulled through - there's always a glimmer of hope when musicians survive. Besides, I'm not into that whole cashing in on the sympathy vote by pretending to feel what I don't, today I felt cheerfully miserable and that's what you get.
Thanx Boy's
I appreciate that you're making an effort to control yourself now richsanter, but after watching you spend over 80 percent of time on this blog swearing at other posters and sh*t stirring as people blog through misfortune, you're hardly in a position to be lecturing anyone on sensitivity. Where was your compassion when refugees streamed out of Fallujah? There's always been gallows humour on this blog, it's preferable to the anger that boils over on message boards (as it has been this week). A gentler way of dealing with global mourning allows the weary a joke.
You're missing the point: The usa army... George Bush. The fact that they choose between TWO parties.
Oh hello Pablo, but a choice between the usa army and George Bush - or the usa army and George Bush choose their parties ? Eep.
Anyway, as with any functioning democracy that has more then two options so too does discussion here have a number of meandering tributaries.
seen from The Netherlands i can understand Emigre's joke here quite well, and i definitely had a good laugh. maybe we dutch would do good to start some nice collaboration within the bigger waterworks in iraq, so that we will have a future on soil, instead of under the water level. The Netherlands is thought to disappear under the sea in 'some' years... for nearly half of its surface ... so these things seem to liquify my future (which climate models do you follow E? ;)
Which climate models cile? Good question, at any rate most seem to point in the same direction - higher ground ! I'm just worried that all richsanter read in my post was a joke and missed the Manhatten warning - which is no joke at all.
I'm beginning to understand where Nostradamus got his sense of humour from though, after foreseeing all that death and destruction he must have felt the need to break out somewhere.
I guess I didn't make my point clear.
I don't think United statens have much of a choice when there is only two parties to choose from.
I read somewhere "dictatorial democracy is when there's freedom of speech but the administration doesn't listen".
United statens are very fast to feel offended or outraged. That's what happens when the ugly things (half of them set up by their own intelligence institutions)all happen far from your territory. That's what happened on september 11 and many people outside the USA (including me) was like "It was about time". By that I don't mean that I'm happy for the dead people. Waht it means is that if nobody wakes this people up somehow the whole world is going to succumb to their "leaders".
Blair doesn't want hate preachers. Man, murdering democratically elected presidents in latin america, financing contra-insurgent armies in México, El salvador, Nicaragua, with 10'000 of deads as a result, sounds like an elocuent hate preaching to me, that ain't very nice. I suppose this "richsanter" guy would need to KNOW this to be able to feel compassion (which is a completely useless feeling) for them. Wonder what it would take for him to take ACTION. Maybe someone close to him in a humilliating or hostile situation.
By the way. And adding to the sense of humor, the guy says you made an "ingorant" post to hurt people that have no home, no food and no water (but they must have internet to be able to read, and hence, be hurt, by your comments).
Great blog. keep it up.
