Losers Blog or Iraqi For Ever

Ferid, a 20-year-old college student from Baghdad, has started his blog. In his first post, he says:

Hi every one :)
I hope you like what garbage I write here :P and remember to come back always for more of my garbage :P

He must be joking. His blog is not a garbage. It's actually a fun blog with a good mix of sports and games information. He also happens to have a good sense of humor.

Picture for hnk

Picture for hnk, who is running a paint challenge. Ok so i cheated and did it in photoshop instead of paint, but it is a completely mousedrawn hand (the wiggly looking thing is a feather).

Green Zone

This guy Eric has something to do with the press in the green zone. Interesting posts. He seems to be involved with Ambassador Negroponte's first out of town trip and offers some behind the scenes info on Bremers last, er, out of town trip (which appears to have been surprise scheduled in advance. That is to say, the surprise party was planned but nobody apparently knew about it except for Bremer)...;

The plan had been that we would have 24 hour notice, and give the press about 8 hours notice before the inauguration. What actually happened was that I came down from the studio at 0900 to find Greg outside Bremer's office wearing a suit. Alarm bells immediately started going off in my mind and my worst fears were realized... (read more...)

(btw that site seems to take a while to load, it keeps waiting to connect to some other guy called www.georgewbush.com...)

Shades of Grey

My War blogged by CBFTW who, it would seem, is a soldier posted in Mosul. Guernica is one of his favorite Picasso's, in fact he even had a poster of it on his barracks room wall back in Fort Lewis. I guess CBFTW had to leave the poster back in Fort Lewis, otherwise he'd probably have to conceal it, that's if he wasn't court marshaled first for blogging William Sherman;

"I am sick and tired of war. It's glory is all moonshine. It is only those who have neither fired a shot nor heard the shrieks and groans of the wounded who cry aloud for blood, for vengeance, for desolation. War is hell."
-William Tecumseh Sherman

I'm amazed he hasn't lost web access yet. His site has the most comprehensive disclaimer i've ever seen. Seeing is believing, as they say. (Pffft, would you believe it, the moment I typed "lost web access yet" my line actually dropped out. I'll be posting this later).

And one in Arabic; Iraq Forever by Fadhil. Noticed this blog a wee while ago but for some reason haven't linked it yet (perhaps i wondered about authenticity, although that hasn't stopped me from linking before.) Anyway, Zeyad gives his opinion here. Fadhil also blogs The Great Iraq in English, which is a collection of links and articles complementary to Iraq Forever.

Unity

Kurdistan bloggers union kbu

A few group blogs seem to have sprung up lately, this ones a spin off from Kurdo's world. Here's the intro post.

Contributors

If you scroll all the way down you may notice a little green box showing who the contributors to this blog now are.

Fayrouz has been way more on the ball then i have lately and has posted several new blog tips in the comments here before i finally got around to linking, so this latest development just seemed to make sense (hopefully she will have time left for breaks). Thank you again Fayrouz for your gracious acceptance.

Any other suggestions/contributions welcome (within reason, the limits of reason being often transient).

Update; contributers now appear at top of page.

Czech translations

Iracke hlasy; Somebody/s translating Iraq blogs into Czech, so far they cover Healing Iraq, Iraq at A Glance, Read in The Middle and Riverbend.

Why? Why not.

Ghaith

Ever wondered what became of g? Ghaith Abdul Ahad has been hanging out around the Iraqi resistance (one almost gains the impression he enjoys it). I suppose this is what used to be called "grass roots".

...Then another man shows up, shortish and in his 40s, and while everyone is ducking or hiding behind columns, he strolls about as if he is in the park. Another fighter loads an RPG for him and the guy turns with the thing on his shoulder as if looking for the direction he should shoot in. Someone shouts: "Push him into the street before he fires it at us!" Another fighter grabs him around his waist and pushes him to the corner where he stands, bullets whizzing around him, takes his time, and - boom! - fires his RPG. He stands there until someone grips his pants and pulls him in.

...The walls and the ground are varnished with fresh blood. In the market a couple of shops are on fire from earlier fighting. A man is hiding behind a pile of empty banana boxes with his eight-year-old son.

Was there ever anything more sublimely ridiculous or heartbreaking then war?

New Blogs!!!

More new blogs, from the new and prolific Abu Khaleel;

An Iraqi who is fearful of the long-term damage being done to Iraq and to America.

Meethaq for Iraq; "A detailed proposal for the implementation of rapid democracy in Iraq. This blog contains the full Arabic text of the document."

Rapid Democracy in Iraq; "Unlike conventional blogs, the proposed solution to the problem of democracy in Iraq is constructed to be read from the top down." How unconventional! How zealously revolutionary! In this blog Abu Khaleel offers light didactics and some seriously considered proposals for Iraq's future.

Iraqi Letter to America Anecdotal Abu Khaleel; "Hurt, violated, humiliated and bloodied, my country still in ruins, my life pure hell, still with no electricity, security in the streets, no good future in sight for my children, no prospect of any life improvement for my people... Yet, I offer my hand in friendship..."

Abu Khaleel's buoyant energy is distinctive, other projects in his menu; A glimpse of Iraq ... US Mistakes in Iraq and Disgruntled Americans.

New Blog - 50th!

Baghdad Girl; Raghda Zaid blogs from Baghdad, at 13 years she is probably one of the blogosphere's youngest bloggers and is Iraq's youngest blogger so far. Her's is also the 50th Iraq blog linked here.

Always wondered how long (if ever) it would take for younger bloggers from Iraq to begin forming networks with each other and start developing their own teen audience. (Although some bloggers and commenters revert to the age of 13 the moment they hit a keyboard, which has it's good and bad points i suppose). Good luck Raghda, hope you keep posting in your own language too.
